2.6 How to save Snaps
Despite the fact that Snapchat has been known for its disappearing content, Snapchat offers possibilities to save your Snaps so you can just save them or share them via other media. This option is very easy to use, but needs some explanation because there is more to explore.
With the addition of the Snapchat Memories feature which you can read more about here, Snapchat came with a kind of personal collection or gallery of your Snaps, which you can easily manage. Next to saving Snaps, users have the possibility to upload other photos and videos. Snapchat Memories can be used very easily if you want to categorize and save your Snaps.
Still the question of this topic remains: how to save Snaps?
How to save Snaps to Memories
First of all, we are going to explain how you can save Snaps to your Memories. If you only want to know how you can save Snaps directly to your device, read below.
STEP 1: In order to save Snaps to Memories, you have to open the Snapchat app and take a Snap. After you have taken a Snapshot of something you enter the edit and review menu. In this section you can add several nice functionalities and layers, like Filters, Geofilters, Emoji, text and more.
STEP 2: Next to those extra layers, there are some other buttons on the screen. The ‘download’ button down left is the one you need. After you have tapped on it, you can see the it’s being saved to Memories.
STEP 3: After you have saved the Snap to Memories, you can still choose to edit the added layers and send it to your friends.
ANOTHER WAY: Also, you can save the Snap to Memories after you have tapped on the blue send button. As you might know, the friend list shows up after tapping on it once. There you can also tap on My Memories in order to save the Snap.
How to save your Story to Memories
STEP 1: You can choose to save your complete Story to Memories by tapping the download button next to it. After tapping it, Snapchat will save the Story as a whole and it will be featured in the Stories section of the Memories menu.
STEP 2: You can also save individual Snaps from your Story to Memories, by opening the particular Snap and swiping up, so the option buttons appear.
How to save Snaps and Stories to your device with Memories
STEP 1: If you haven’t changed your Snapchat settings, the following method is the way to save your Snaps or Stories to your device. First of all, you have to go to the Memories section. If you don’t know where to find this, read more about it here.
STEP 2: After that you have to tap on the edit and send button of a particular image. There you can choose to export the Snap through other media, but if you want to save Snaps to your device you have to tap the options button in the left top corner.
STEP 3: A drop-down menu appears, which also includes ‘Save to camera roll’. Tap it and your Snap will be saved to the gallery on your device. After the saving is complete, the Snap is (also) available in the Snapchat folder in the image gallery on your device.
How to save Snaps directly to your device
STEP 1: The method described above could be hard and asks quite a lot actions. In this paragraph we are going to explain how you can make the saving of Snaps a lot easier. First of all, open the Snapchat app, scroll down for your personal overview menu and select the settings icon in the top right corner.
STEP 2: There you can find your settings, where you can tap ‘Memories’ under ‘My account’. There you can select settings about the backup process and storage, but also about saving. Here can you choose where you would like your Snaps to be saved and can you select things like auto-save Stories and default saving to My Eyes Only.
STEP 3: After tapping on ‘Save to..’ you can select whether you would like your Snaps being saved to Memories, Memories & camera roll or camera roll only. After you have changed this settings, go and tap the ‘save’ button we have been writing about earlier. It surprisingly works and the Snap has been saved on the location(s) of your choice.
How to save Snaps from other users
UNFORTUNATELY: Maybe you have come across this page to find out how to save Snaps from other users. One of the reasons of your question is that the Snaps will disappear after the time the other user has set. This is one of the main elements of Snapchat and therefore there is no in-app possibility to save other Snapchat users their Snaps and/or Stories.
TIP 1: Of course you can still use the screenshot functionality of your device, which will work fine for Snapshots, but not for video Snaps. By screenshotting other users’ Snaps or Stories, the specific Snapchat user will receive a notification that you have taken a screenshot of their Snap.
TIP 2: Next to taking a screenshot of the Snapchat app with your device there are some third-party apps you could use to record what you’re doing on your phone, and so, on Snapchat. We have created all the gif-images on our site with a third-party app like that, for example.
