3.6 How to add Text

HOW TO ADD TEXT: Adding text to your Snap is one of the most recognizable features of Snapchat. One of the forms is really authentic and therefore is really recognizable as a feature of Snapchat. The others are more usual and thus less recognizable as a Snapchat feature. On this page we will try to explain how you can add text to your Snaps, as we understand your desire to add some explanation to some of your Snaps. The described ways work exactly the same for photo and video.

STEP 1: First of all, make sure you have captured or recorded a Snap, as you can’t add text to your piece of art on the forehand.

STEP 2: After you have captured something, you access a screen where you can review your Snap one last time before sharing it. Next to reviewing it, you can add several layers, like Geofilters, Filters, Emoijs and more, which we also have been writing about.

But you’re here to find out how you can add text to your Snap, so we’ll continue with that.

STEP 3: In the ‘review menu’ you can tap the ‘T’ button on the right top, which obviously stands for ‘Text’. After tapping the button, an almost black line appears on top of your Snap. This is the most recognizable text line of Snapchat, because it is very authentic.

STEP 4: You can type the text you want in here or paste the text you have copied earlier. One thing: the text must be below 80 characters. You can move the text line across the full screen, just where you like it.

STEP 5: If you don’t like this text shape, Snapchat also offers another possibility. When you tap the text button again the text will become larger and the black line disappears. With this text style you can do some more things than the first one.

STEP 6: For example, you can use two fingers to let the size increase or decrease, you can change the color by tapping on the text and selection another color. If you would like to use multiple colors within one text, you can select the various text sections and select the color of your choice. Also you can choose whether you would like to use bold, italic, or underscored text.

VIDEO STEP: When you are adding the text to videos, you can let it stick somewhere around the video by holding and dropping it somewhere you like.

STEP 7: The last text shape is exactly the same as the second style we mentioned, except that this last one starts in the exact middle of your Snap.

After it ‘started’ there, you can do the exact same things we just explained regarding the second style. So just drag, resize and color it the way you like.
