5.6 How to use Discover

How to use the Discover feature?

DISCOVER 1: The Discover feature is very easy to use. As the previous page explained, you can swipe easily to the left to see the featured content.

DISCOVER 2: If you are interested in one of the publishers’ content, you can tap on the block which belongs to the specific publisher and/or article.

DISCOVER 3: Once you have tapped on the specific publishers’ block, the featuring article comes up. With large visuals, music, moving objects or texts the publishers try to get you attracted by the specific content.

DISCOVER 4: You can swipe through the articles of the day by swiping to the left, and later on, to the right. Sometimes the publishers only use the full-screen representations, so there’s nothing to swipe up to.

DISCOVER 5: Once you have found something you might like, you can use the swiping button below to read or watch the content beneath the flashy representation of it. Also, you can swipe up anywhere on the representation for the content to appear beneath it, which seems to be very logical.

DISCOVER 6: After you have swiped up, the content beneath the representation appears. Here you can enjoy reading the articles, watch the videos or just swipe through the content.

DISCOVER 7: After you have read the article or watched the video, you can easily swipe down to bring you back to the article overview of the particular publisher. In this section you can swipe left and right again to discover the other articles of the publisher.

DISCOVER 8: If you want to close down the Discover feature, you can swipe down once again. And there you are, back to the overview you are more used to.

How to share the headlines of the articles in Discover?

Did you know you can share the visual representations of the articles featured in Discover? Yes, we know you can screenshot everything, but in fact, Snapchat has a very clever way to share the visual representations within Snapchat.

STEP 1: By holding your finger on the screen for a while, you see a screen pop up over the visual representation of the specific article. With that extra pop up, all the Snapchat features you’re used to, appear.

STEP 2: You can put text on it, draw on it, put emoticons on it. Basically, you can do almost whatever you like to do with it. After you are done ‘editing’, you can of click the blue share button to select the users you would like to share this piece of content with.

How to share Snapchat videos?

As one the previous paragraphs already showed, you can easily share the visual representations (or headlines) of the articles in Discover. The current step is about the videos you can find in the ‘articles’ of the Discover feature.

Unfortunately the same method we showed in the previous paragraphs doesn’t fully work with moving videos. Once you use this method and hold your finger on the screen for a while, the video automatically pauses, just like Snapchat takes a screenshot of the video. Just like in the previous steps, you can see a screen pop up over the piece of the article you selected. There you can edit the ‘screenshot’.

As noted already, it’s unfortunately not possible to share the full video with your friends (as far as we know).

How to subscribe to Channels?

There are a couple of ways to subscribe to the publishers of the Discover section.

METHOD 1: First of all, you can hold your finger on one of the ‘Discover blocks’ after you have swiped once (or twice) to the left. A small description of the publisher appears with a button to subscribe to the channel.

METHOD 2: The second way is the way you might possible find first. After scrolling down while reading an article, there appears to be a small banner at the bottom of the article. Most of the times, you can find a subscribe button over there.

METHOD 3: The third way to subscribe to one of the publishers you can find after browsing through all the visuals the publishers showcase in their Discover feed. The last visual contains an (original) image where you can swipe up to subscribe.
