1.1 What is Snapchat?
What is Snapchat? Snapchat is a free mobile instant messaging app for iOS and Android. Snapchat is founded and initially created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown. The first version of Snapchat was launched in 2011. In 2012, the app also launched on Android.
The biggest difference between Snapchat and other messaging apps is that your message, photo, video – Snap – disappears after a set amount of time. Users can send Snaps, which disappear after a few seconds, or in case of the Stories feature, after 24 hours. With this functionality, Snapchat is very different from the other social media we are used to (among others: Facebook and Instagram).

Snapchat actually started by offering two things: 1. Making Snaps and 2. Having chats. There you are: Snapchat. That’s how it all started.
In the beginning, the app actually had two screens. One meant for taking Snaps, and another one for having chats with your friends. In some way, this is currently still the case. At this moment the app offers more screens on the right for exploring Stories and live events.
The way Snapchat works is primary based on the idea of instant expression. You can capture the moment with your smartphone and share it with friends or in your Story. “You are what you are doing right now.” That’s the philosophy. That’s what your friends like to see. Feel free to share with your friends, without being followed by old photographs of you placed months ago.
Evan Spiegel in his blog: “We’re building a photo app that doesn’t conform to unrealistic notions of beauty or perfection but rather creates a space to be funny, honest or whatever else you might feel like at the moment you take and share a Snap.”
FAST: At this moment – august 2016 – it is the fastest growing social media app on the planet! And you are probable at the point of exploring the mind blowing way of digital communicating with your friends on Snapchat. Find your way and join the growing group of Snapchat-users.
To be honest; Snapchat is quite difficult to use, compared to other apps. It’s slightly different and needs some explanation before you understand all the features. Snapchat offers a support page, some YouTube channels offers tutorials and on this website you will find the biggest online guide.
Start snapping, good luck and have fun!
